Finally, it is Friday!! What a crazy and busy week it has been at the Hendricks’ House! But we are settling down and ready for a long weekend. Both Kason and Katie have been sick this week. Katie has been coughing her head off, off and on for 3 weeks or so. She has also had a runny nose and been fussier than usual. Kason woke up late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning complaining that his ear was hurting. When he got up for school on Wednesday morning he was acting like he didn’t feel good. I gave him some Motrin then took his temp. It was just a low-grade 99.5, but we decided he probably should stay home since he was acting so miserable. Unfortunately neither GD or myself could take off that morning. Nana to the rescue!! My wonderful mom graciously agreed to take the morning off work and stay with Kason. I am so thankful for my Mom!! They spent the morning together. It is amazing how Kason perked up after he found out he wasn’t going to school and the Motrin kicked in! When I got home around noon, Mom said they had played soccer, video games, and ate popcorn. Kason didn’t look like he was feeling too bad! :) Mom left to go to work and I took both kids in to see the doctor. They checked their ears, throats and breathing. The final diagnosis was an ear infection for Kason and sinus infection for Katie. We got 2 prescriptions for Augmentin and off we went! So both kids are on antibiotics now and hopefully on the mend.
This week has also brought with it a new obsession for Kason. Hunting. Yes, you heard right – hunting. We are not sure exactly how this obsession started - although we did get him a hunting video game about 3 weeks ago. I guess that was the start. In the video game, you go to Montana to hunt for deer, elk, mountain lions, etc. Not long after we got it Kason asked me if we could drive to Montana . I told him that it was a very long way and if we went we would probably fly. I asked him why he was asking and he said cause he wants to go hunting. I told him you don’t have to go to Montana to hunt. Unfortunately for Kason, (but fortunately for me!) GD does not hunt. So Kason keeps talking about going hunting with Monty (our good friend and neighbor). He knows Monty hunts and thinks he is going to hunt with him. Kason has also started to want to watch hunting shows on TV. He loves to see the guys in their camo hiding up in a tree waiting for the deer to get in just the right place before thy shoot the poor thing! Oh, and here is the funniest thing! Kason found a huge, hard-cover 2007 Cabela’s catalog/book at Nana’s. He carries it with him everywhere! Along with the clothes and equipment for sale, it has pictures of men with the animals they have shot. He loves it! He even had to take it in to the doctor’s office when we went. I am hoping this is just a phase that will quickly pass! I don’t think I can stand the thought of my baby with a gun shooting Bambi! :)
For those of you who keep up with my blog, you may remember me mentioning a couple of weeks back about starting a fitness program. Just to give you all an update, I have been continuing to work out thanks to my friend and long-distance trainer, Marilyn. The first workout she gave me was so grueling, I was convinced that Marilyn hated me and wanted me to die. However, once I regained the use of my legs and arms from the soreness of the first workout and continued to follow her workout plan, I can see that she does have my best interest at heart. The workouts are still grueling, but I can tell that I have gotten stronger. Marilyn has me doing cardio (treadmill, elliptical, stair-stepper) as well as strengthening exercise such as lunges (the bane of my existence!!), tricep dips, squats, push ups, sit ups, chin ups, and machine weights. There are days when I don’t think I will be able to make it, but I push through so that I can tell Marilyn I did it! Accountability is a powerful thing! I still need to do a better job of watching my food intake, and I will. But I am feeling stronger and more energized! Thanks Marilyn! You know what you are. (a ROCKSTAR!) :)
Hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
I hope the kids were well enough to make the most of the long weekend.
ReplyDeleteYOU are the Rockstar--you're doing terrific!!!
Make it a great day,
Marilyn
