Kason was ready and excited for school to start back. He got his Michael Jordan sneakers and backpack, so he was ready. You may think the MJ accessories were Gary Don's idea, but you would be wrong. Kason HAD to have MJ shoes and backpack. He is such a little Gary Don!! Here are a couple pics taken before school this morning:

First Day of School
Well summer is over (although you can't tell by the weather... it was 107 degrees today!!), and school has started. Today was Kason's first day of 2nd grade. I cannot believe how fast the time goes by!! I managed to get through this morning without any tears, but I came close when I was driving off. It is just so hard to believe that my baby boy is in 2nd grade.

When we got to school, Kason was Mr. Cool. I really don't think he wanted me to walk him in, but he humored me. :) He was, however, verbal about not wanting me to take pictures in his classroom. But what are mothers for, if not to embarrass their kids! I figure I might as well start early. :) I pointed out to Kason that there were tons of moms there taking pictures with their big cameras while I only had my little non-obtrusive cell phone camera. That didn't seem to matter to him. :) I forced him to take the two pics below. The first was outside of his classroom in the hall. You can see by his expression that he was way too cool to have his mom take a picture of him. Ha!

Oma's 85th Birthday lunch
To celebrate Oma's 85th birthday, the girls in my family (minus my favorite cousin, Jamie who was out of town. We missed you, Jame!) met at Sauce on the square in McKinney. Sauce is a fairly new Italian restaurant. It was a perfect spot for our lunch! The food was delish, the drinks were yummo, the service was great and the atmosphere was fun! It is a challenge to find a venue for lunch for ages ranging from 3 to 85, but Poosie did a great job!! Thanks Poos!
Normally I don't bring Katie to our girls' lunches, but Gary Don wasn't able to keep her on Saturday due to Kason's football practice. So I brought her along. She was so excited to be going to a "big girl" lunch! Here is a picture with her, Nana and the birthday girl herself!
I love how she smiled in all of these pictures! She is such a little ham! I was worried that she would be too much of a distraction for our lunch, and she was somewhat. But she was pretty well-behaved. And besides getting antsy towards the end, I thought she did very well. Here is a picture of her and her Nana. I don't have enough pics of mom with the grandkids and am going to work on that!
Before our food came out, we ordered drinks. What is a girls' lunch without drinks!?!?! :) Everyone except for me had peach bellinis. They raved about them! I am not a peach fan so I ordered a strawberry mojito. It was yummy! Her eis a pic of Poos and Oma enjoying their bellinis.
Katie went with me before the lunch to pick out a birthday card for Oma. I couldn't find one that I liked. Katie begged and begged me to get Oma a Barbie birthday card. She said she would like it the best. :) I finally relented after fruitlessly searching for an appropriate "grandmother" card. Katie was so anxious to give Oma her card. She kept asking. When we could no longer stand her asking, we let her give Oma her card. One problem... Katie wanted Oma to give the card back. She thought it was her card. :) We finally managed to distract her and Oma got to keep her Barbie birthday card. :) Katie loved helping Oma open her gifts.

These "Lazy Days of Summer" are anything but!!
I don't know who came up with the term "Lazy Days of Summer", but whoever they are, they are a big fat liar! :) More like the Crazy Busy Days of Summer! We have been busy busy busy!! So I am WAY behind on my blogging. I definately owe you a blog on Hawaii and other fun summer events! I will get to that, but want to get to the immediate happenings in the Hendricks' House first.
Both Kason and Katie have had some exciting recent events! Katie Blair is now potty trained!!!! Yes, I know she is over 3 years old and she should have been potty trained a long time ago. But she is now and we are thrilled! She has been in big-girl panties for over a week now with only one accident! We are so very proud of our big girl! Here she is in her big-girl panties with my running shoes on. :) Maybe she will grow up to be a runner! (Hopefully, though, she will be wearing pants when she runs. :)
Kason has had his own big news! He lost 2 teeth last night!! Here is a pic of our little Jack-o-lantern. :) He sounds so funny when he tries to say his S's. Ha!
Kason loves his summer daycare. He has lots of friends there and they go on lots of fun field trips. They also swim, play soccer, dance and play games. He completely fell in love with his teacher, Ms. Erica. I am talking head over heals! Kason has always been a little girl-crazy, but this is ridiculous!! He talked about Ms. Erica every day! He told me he didn't think he would find a girl as pretty as Ms. Erica to marry. I told him I was certain he would, but at the age of 7, he should not be concerned about that. He assured me she was only 19 and that wasn't a huge age difference. Oh my! We are gonna have our hands full with him!

Ms. Erica's last day was this past Friday. She had to go back to college. Kason was devastated. He made her a card and we picked up donuts for her last day. And of course I had to snap a picture on her last day. Look at that smile on Kason's face!
